Canine Nose Work

Class Description: Class Description: Class Description: Scent Detection for Fun and Titles

Does your dog have a nose? Then he’ll love this sport! Nose Work is one of the biggest new hits in the dog world. It harnesses the power of the amazing canine nose using an easy-to-learn, positive training method that introduces dogs to scent work in a low-key, fun manner.

Scent work isn’t physically strenuous, but provides excellent mental stimulation for your dog. He will have fun, build confidence, and burn up tons of energy trying to puzzle things out.

Reactive Recovery Rally Obedience

Class Description: Class Description: Class Description: Cynosport and AKC Rally Obedience

Rally-O is a new take on traditional obedience. Unlike classic obedience, where a judge calls out instructions, in Rally Obedience you and your dog move through a course of 10–20 stations, each with a printed sign indicating an exercise you and your dog will carry out. Rally-O rules allow you to talk to and encourage your dog throughout the course. The focus is on teamwork between handler and dog - and on both having fun.

Rally-O exercises include a variety of basic and advanced obedience maneuvers based on heel/loose-leash walking, standing, turning, sitting and lying down, backing up, etc.

Even if you don’t intend to compete for titles, Rally-O is great for teaching your dog attention, body awareness, and everyday life skills.

How will this class benefit you at home?Family Values: How this class will benefit you at home

  • Obedience builds confidence and strengthens your bond

  • You and your dog can work on AKC and Cynosport Rally-O titles

  • Rally exercises teach practical skills: for example, Loose Leach Walking builds calmness at the vet’s office, and an eager recall can save your dog’s life if he or she accidentally gets out of the house or yard

Treibball Class

Class Description: Class Description: Class Description: Ball Herding for Fun and Excitement

Treibball, a word that means push ball, is a sport in which your dog uses its nose and body to drive large exercise balls into a soccer goal. Think of it as “urban herding” - just without the sheep! This new dog sport has become incredibly popular, as it combines obedience and focus in a way that is not only fun but also mentally and physically challenging.

This class is an entertaining introduction to Treibball in a pressure-free and non-competitive environment. Any dog (your dog doesn’t have to be a herding breed) can do it, and it’s tons of fun. Many useful skills borrowed from classical herding, including distance control commands, are used in Treibball, making it a great way to round out your training experience.

All participants should bring their own inflated exercise ball. The exercise ball should be taller than your dog’s shoulders.

How will this class benefit you at home?Family Values: How this class will benefit you at home

  • You and your dog will learn to communicate at a distance, and build your relationship
  • Treibball is easy to learn but hard to play, so it really burns energy - and a tired dog is a good dog at home
  • It’s the perfect outlet for a ball-crazy or chase-stimulated dog

Clicks and Tricks™

Class Description: Class Description: Class Description: Trick Training for Therapy and Fun

Nothing breaks the ice faster at a therapy visit - or charms a shy child better - than a dog who wows with fun and entertaining tricks. And tricks are a great way to build serious training skills as you help your dog understand the “training game” and learn all kinds of behaviors.

You and your dog will master a repertoire of crowd-pleasing tricks, including wave, shake, high five, roll over, etc. He can earn Trick Dog titles through Do More With Your Dog, too!

You’ll also learn how to use a gentle, motivation-based approach to build any behavior from scratch, put it on verbal cue, and proof it so it works in all settings.
